Someone has finally caught all the Pokémon on Pokemon Go
A man by the name of Nick Johnson has been touring the world over the last few weeks, feverishly trying to catch all of the Pokémon Go characters, posting updates to his Snapchat account, and today in Australia he finally did it. Johnson, a 28-year-old New Yorker who works at the startup Applico, traveled around the U.S.
(predominately in New York and New Jersey) to catch all of the North American Pokémon. Once he crossed that hurdle, he received sponsorship from Expedia and Marriott Rewards to fly to Paris, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Tokyo to continue playing the game. He’s leaving for Japan tomorrow, but it will be a relaxed stay given that he’s already bagged every Pokémon available. According to Johnson, he received help finding numerous hidden characters thanks to locals. "People tipped me off," he told me from Australia, 20 minutes after finding his last one. For example, in Paris, he was tipped off about a mysterious "Mr. Mime" Pokémon while giving a media interview. He dashed quickly to find the gem, and ultimately nabbed it around midnight while combing the streets in an Uber.
He says he found this last one, a Kangaskhan (which is a character exclusive to Australia and New Zealand), in a similar manner thanks to tips from people in Australia. It happened in the Sydney neighborhood of Hyde Park "right in front of a Tommy Bahama," he told me. He had spent that entire day looking for similar rare Pokémons. Johnson wasn't the only jet-setter, mind you. There was another man named Peter Joey-Pham also traveling the world to catch them all, although he hadn’t received a sponsorship footing the bill.
Joey-Pham ultimately halted his quest after getting hit by a car. Although, Johnson says he received anonymous messages on Snapchat from someone he believes was this competitor taunting him. Whether or not these messages came from Joey-Pham has not been confirmed. In any case, Johnson has emerged the clear victor with a free global quest to boot. He added that this won’t stop him from playing the game, although maybe less frantically. He told me he's excited about the legendary Pokémon characters set to be released sometime in the future. He added that he'll continue updating his Snapchat (username nja212) with Pokémon Go-related tidbits. But once this trip ends in a few days, it will be back to business as usual for the Brooklynite, albeit with a bit more social cachet.

Pokémon, Mario and Zelda headline NX 'dream' line-up
Nintendo is putting together a triple-A software line-up, to ensure NX flies out of the gate next year.
Developer Game Freak will bring Pokémon to the platform, while Nintendo’s first party titles include the previously announced Zelda game – Breath of the Wild – and
a new Mario game. All three products are scheduled to appear within the first six months of the machine’s life.
The firm has also been busy securing third-party support, with Sega, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Activision and Warner Bros already on-board.
Sources close to Nintendo have told MCV that the firm is determined that NX will not suffer the same slow start as either the Wii U or 3DS.
The same sources confirmed that the Eurogamer report last week - which revealed that NX will be a portable machine that can be plugged into a TV and features a breakaway controller – is ‘100 per cent accurate’.
Game graphics will be ‘somewhere between a PS3 and PS4’, with Nintendo targeting an audience that sits between smartphone gamers and the more hardcore users of PS4 and Xbox One.
“It’s a nice bit of kit, a bit of a novelty, but a good one,” said one exec that has got hands on with the machine. “It won’t appeal to PS4 fans. Nintendo seems set on trying to upgrade smartphone gamers. That’s going to be a big job for the marketing department.”
NX is currently slated to launch in March next year worldwide.

Some Pokémon Go players accidentally ended up with legendary Pokémon
Pokémon Go’s weirdest controversy to date appears to have come to an end: Niantic has removed legendary Pokémon from certain players’ collections, meaning there are no Pokémon Go trainers out there with one of the rare finds.
"We recently noticed that a few Legendary Pokémon got into a few accounts when they shouldn’t have," a representative for the developer told Polygon. "To preserve the game’s integrity and as a measure of fairness, we have rectified the situation and revoked the legendary Pokémon from the trainers’ accounts."
This invites as many questions as it answers, but we’ll start with what we know. The statement comes as a response to an Ohio player’s assertion that she’d caught the legendary bird Pokémon Articuno, a feat many of the most dedicated Pokémon Go community members thought impossible. Kaitlyn Covey and her mythical catch became stuff of Pokémon Go legend in just hours, largely due to how hard she worked to refute allegations that her achievement was a ruse.
Her screenshots appeared convincing, but those aren’t hard to fake; an email allegedly sent to Covey from Niantic misspelled the legendary Pokémon in question’s name as "Articundo." She later co-opted that spelling for a livestream in which she and another player claimed to demonstrate the captured Articuno in real time.
Niantic’s statement suggests that all of this was faked and confirms that Covey can’t possibly have an Articuno in her game at present. An earlier statement given to Geek.com seemed to confirm that Covey's Articuno was the result of a hack. (Covey has yet to respond to any of Niantic's comments.) The developer neglected to mention exactly when trainers’ legendaries were taken away, however. We also don’t know which ones were let loose, or for how long, or to whom.
Regardless, all signs point to Pokémon Go’s legendary Pokémon remaining untamed and undiscovered. Pokémon Go, for all of its issues, continues to provide bountiful mysteries.

Pokemon Go players given refunds because game is so broken
Apple allows people unsatisfied with their purchases to get refunds – and thousands of people are now asking for them.
Pokemon Go players are being given cash because they are so unhappy with the new update.
Developers Niantic released a new version of the game yesterday that looked to fix some of the game’s long-standing problems. But in fact it just made many players upset, after it removed central parts of the game including the tool that allowed players to track down Pokemon.
Previously, the game had offered a tool that showed how far away certain Pokemon were so that they could be tracked down, but it broke soon after the game was launched. To fix that problem, the developers just removed the feature entirely.
That came with a range of other issues including cutting off access to third-party websites, which had become a popular way of documenting where Pokemon were and finding them, especially without the third-party tools.
Now users are so upset about those changes that they are asking for the money they spent in the game to be returned. Since some central parts of the game are now broken, the in-game items that they bought to help track and catch Pokemon are now not useful, they claim.
Unhappy trainers can head to Apple’s “Report A Problem” page to ask for their purchases to be refunded. After logging in, that page will show every purchase that has been made – and reporting a problem, saying that the items functions differently than had been expected, appears to lead to Apple giving an automatic refund.
Google’s policy for in-app purchases made through the Play Store appears to be slightly more restrictive, only giving automatic refunds for things bought in the last 48 hours. But some users are reporting that they can get refunds for purchases from longer ago by calling through to Google support.

Pokémon Go players outraged after maps shut down by game update
Sites and apps that allow trainers to locate specific Pokémon have been shut down after game update removes nearby tracking.
Pokémon Go players are up in arms after an update to the game removed a feature that helped locate nearby Pokémon and forced third-party maps of Pokémon locations to shut down.
The game’s first big update changed a variety of things about the app, including adding the ability to alter your trainer’s appearance, tweaking the dynamics of curveballs, and changing part of the way gym battles work and improving the way users transfer unwanted Pokémon to professor Willow.
But the change with the biggest impact for the majority of players has been the removal of the footprint distance readings from the nearby Pokémon tracker. At the same time, services including Pokévision, which allowed players to spot where individual Pokémon were likely to pop up, have been forced to shut down.
Pokémon Go Reddit user Chopkins9 said: “I looked for 15 minutes with no luck and [the Pokémon] disappeared, now I’m quitting Pokémon Go. What’s the point of this game without tracking?”
Hopps56 added: “This is becoming more frustrating then fun as the days go on … If it wasn’t for having to catch them all, I would of left this game when the tracking first went down hill.”
“It was great in the early stages of the game, being able to track down Pokémon you didn’t have, and evolving them. Now it’s like, oh another Drowzee. Great. If I get a few more I can evolve a Hypno with maybe 10 CP higher than the best Hypno I have right now, which is one of a dozen Hypnos I’ve already evolved. It’s just tedious grinding with no real payoff,” said ThomasSirveaux.
“Pokémon Go went from a game that I go out to play, to a game I play when I’m out, to a game I never play,” said Oxgmum, which was popular with the Reddit Pokémon Go community, gaining over 2,500 up votes.
Pokémon Go became an overnight sensation, attracting millions of players while launching in just Australia, New Zealand and the US. It was expanded to Europe a week later, and the home of Pokémon Japan, a week after that. The game has seen more than 100m downloads, and crowds flock to the streets jamming up bridges, roads and even walking into the sea in search of the game’s illusive creatures.
How long Pokémon Go hysteria can last remains to be seen, but it has had a real-world impact on the businesses and areas frequented by players. Pubs, cafes, shops and public spaces have hopped on the bandwagon, encouraging players to spend time in their areas.

Pokémon Go update angers players by removing key features - here's what's new
The first significant update to Pokémon Go since the game was released almost a month ago has left many players disappointed after it chose to remove a key feature rather than fix it.
When the game was launched on July 6, it included a footprint tracker feature that allowed players to zero in on nearby Pokémon. Opening a box in the bottom-right corner of the screen would show nearby targets each with one, two or three footprints underneath them, indicating how far they were away from the player in intervals of 100m.
Shortly after the game was released, however, the feature stopped working, a glitch that was rumoured to be related to the Google Maps interface that the game uses. Now, in an update to Pokémon Go released over the weekend, the game has removed the step counter entirely, simply showing a list of close Pokémon in the “Nearby” box.
It is the most controversial change in the update to Pokémon Go, which came to iOS and Android on Saturday, and has also been held responsible for resetting players’ accounts. Here’s everything that’s new in the update.
Transferring Pokémon is easier
Sore thumb from scrolling down the screen to trade in those scores of Pidgeys? It’s now easier to trade in Pokémon for candies.
When viewing a Pokémon, instead of scrolling down, there’s a menu button in the bottom right of the screen. Select it and press transfer to transfer it to Professor Oak.
Favourite your best Pokémon
If you’ve ever accidentally transferred your best creatures, this is a welcome update. On the same menu as the option to transfer a Pokémon, you can select the “Favorite” button to save them.
This will prevent you from transferring them by mistake, and you can also rank your monsters in the Pokémon menu with favourites at the top.
Footprints are gone
You can no longer use the footprint indicators to try and track down nearby Pokémon.
This is a feature that has been broken for weeks, but many players are angry that game developer Niantic chose to scrap it rather than fix it.
Battery saving mode scrapped
The game had a battery saving mode in the Settings menu that would dim the screen when walking alone with your phone, saving valuable battery life.
The feature has now been removed from the menu, although it is unclear why. Gamers eager to save power can try tricks such as turning off AR mode and activating battery saver on their phones.
Damage values changed
Different Pokemon’s abilities in battle have changed to balance out the game. For example, Vaporeon, a notoriously strong creature, is slightly weaker.
The powers of many moves have also been changed, largely to make basic attacks less powerful and charge attacks stronger.
Third-party tracking closed
A separate issue from the update, but over the weekend several online maps that allowed players to find rare Pokémon, such as Pokévision, were shut down.
It appears that Niantic sent these services requests to take them down, warning that they violated terms of service. On Twitter, Pokévision said it hoped things would change in the coming days.
Customise your player’s appearance
At the start of the game, players were able to tweak their appearance by choosing clothes, hairstyles and so on.
They are now able to do this at any time by selecting their icon in the bottom left corner of the screen, hitting the menu button on the bottom right, and then choosing “customize”.
